FAQs

What should I expect on my first visit?

We encourage our patients to have a full body skin exam performed on their first visit to screen for skin cancer. However, if you are coming for a focused reason such as acne, a rash, or a cosmetic consult, you can opt to defer a skin check for another visit.

Here are examples of some types of visits:

  • Full body skin exam – Prepare by arriving without makeup and nail polish. We will provide a medical gown to change into and will examine your skin from head to toe. If any lesions are suspicious for skin cancer, we may perform a skin biopsy. If you are not comfortable with certain areas being examined, please let us know.
  • Skin cancer management – If you have already been diagnosed with a skin cancer by a different practice, please bring a physical copy of the biopsy report with you. We will review the risks and benefits of various treatment options, including topical therapy, electrodessication and curettage, excision, Mohs Micrographic surgery, radiation, or medical therapy.
  • Surgical consultation – beyond a simple skin biopsy, most surgical procedures will require a separate visit. On your first visit, you can expect to have a consultation with your provider about your surgical request and expectations for details of the procedure, healing time, and potential appearance of the scar.
  • Acne/Rosacea - We will assess your skin and discuss what current products you are using, including what has worked and what has failed. Please bring the names or tubes of any prescription medications you have used in the past.
  • Eczema, psoriasis, and other rashes – If you have a rash that comes and goes, please take detailed photos when it is active and have them ready to show the provider if the rash is not present at the time of the visit. Bring names and tubes of any medications you have already tried for the rash. Some rashes are caused by prescription medications you are taking regularly, so please have an updated list if all your medications and supplements.
  • Warts - Warts may take multiple monthly visits to eradicate. We will discuss treatment options and treat your wart at the first visit and schedule regular follow ups to ensure complete resolution.
  • Cosmetic consultation – Most cosmetic consults are conducted by Dr. Patrone. She will discuss your concerns and recommend which specific procedures would best suit your needs. Most cosmetic procedures are not covered by insurance, and pricing will be quoted at the time of the visit. We do not provide pricing over the phone. Most procedures will require scheduling a follow up appointment. Our goal is to provide cost-effective options that fit every budget.
How do I make an appointment?

All appointment requests should be made by phone – (856) 853-0900. This way, we can discuss your needs and urgency of the appointment, as well as match you with the appropriate provider and appointment type.

Which provider will I see?

Please meet our team here and see who may best fit your needs. When you call to make an appointment, you can either request a specific provider or request whoever has the next available appointment. All our providers provide excellent medical care for both adults and children, and we all specialize in skin cancer screening and management.

Do you offer urgent appointments?

Yes, please let us know the urgency of your appointment when you call to schedule, especially if it is a condition that required recent hospitalization, or an emergency room visit. We do not accept walk-ins, but are willing to accommodate acute conditions, including new patients.

Do I need a referral?

Requirements for referral all depend on your insurance carrier. Please check with your insurance. We must have the referral at the time of your visit.

Will my visit be covered by insurance?

Most medical conditions are covered by your insurance, but procedures may require prior authorization. Prescription coverage varies greatly by insurance, and we utilize specialty pharmacies to provide cost-effective options if a medication is not covered. If you have a plan with a deductible, your insurance will require you to pay out of pocket for all costs until you meet your deductible. Removal of certain benign lesions such as skin tags, angiomas, or seborrheic keratoses are not covered, and we will discuss pricing at your visit. Cosmetic procedures are not covered.
